Vitamins being banned

To:
Rep. James McGovern

January 7, 2005

I recently read that vitamins are in the process of being banned in Europe. A United Nations effort to restrict dietary supplements - a European Union Food Supplement Directive. This scheme is known as CODEX.

I have raised three healthy children with vitamins and my parents (68 years old, still working full time) have recently added vitamins to their daily diets.

My dad has survived a heart condition and this past year, prostate cancer. My Mom has struggled with respiratory disease (both former smokers). Since taking a daily dose of 2,000 mg of vitamin C, they have commented on feeling better, with more energy. On the other side of this issue, my Mom's sister two years younger (former nurse) is very unhealthy, taking 22 prescribed pills a day, from 4 different doctors.

My husband spent the last three days on the couch with fever, chest and head cold while I worked 50+ hours this week with the same cold.

The difference? On the first day of feeling a sore throat, I took 11,500 mg (25 tablets) of vitamin C.

The personal choice between taking vitamins and running to the doctors for god knows what may become a thing of the past.

Is this a result of the widespread corrupt lobbying efforts of the medical and pharmaceutical industries?

I am asking that you research this issue with an open mind, that you ignore future lobbyist on this subject and LISTEN to your voters.

Please respond to this email with detail; what your thoughts are and what plan of action your office will take to prevent this from happening in the United States.
